Epilogue

Epilogue

A Chapter by Katie Foutz Voss

I write this part of the story on my journey to South Dakota for the fourth time. I decided that I needed to finish the story before the next journey began. After an entire year of writing this story, I needed some closure on the whole mentality that consumed my previous trip.

We’ve been on the road for about five hours now. Lucas and his parents left a week ago. It’s hot, and miserable. We’re taking a bus this year and the air conditioning works poorly, if ever. But I have to say that I am in a much better place this year. My heart doesn’t hurt quiet as deeply. I’m listening to the right Voice, seeing with the right eyes. I’m seeing the lights, still.

And I cannot forget the power of conflict, of collisions in the dark.
