Ode to a Memory

Poem

Days and nights pass uneventful and slow,
Like the ebb and flow of a gentle wave -
Yet the beat in my heart is steady and strong
With the memories my heart has intended to save.

I ponder the pain I see in his eyes.
I wish I could take it away.
I ponder what caused a hurt so intense
That he's suffered a lifetime - to this very day.

Try as I might to get past all the memories,
There's something that keeps me from walking away
From the happiest moments I lived in my lifetime,
That give me the strength to keep on - day by day.
