I Am

I Am

A Poem by J

It hums.

white noise, the background symphony

heard only by her

scattered, shattered

. . .  a force of habit

in decibels too low to . . . disturb

She sees

     and holds

      and lives

with fragile wings and iris eyes

the sadness

that has

always

undone her credibility

And her feet - they are from her mother

and have carried her among the ruins

every.time.

And a wish for a mending touch to heal them

from some sneaky shard of some broken thing

or other that escaped the broom, the vacuum, the mop...

And bluejeans with holes at the knees

but enough wear left for next summer

And the wind blows the betrayal

to dust and settled seas

salt~stained and

finally,

What a coldness here, what isolation there between the lines.. alone, desperate for warmth and due caring. Your words have, in the past, made me smile, made me wonder, made me.. feel always. But this chills me, j.. and i hope and pray that by now, more is creeping, sliding, edging into your life and shining more light into your dear heart.

Jill,
These words hold the immaculate beauty, power, and sadness of a killing storm. They leave the reader with the unsettling sense of both tragedy and acceptance, just as so many things in life do. So nice to read your words again. d.
