The Betrayer

The Betrayer

A Poem by Joan*Eckhart
"

The title says it all...

"
The world became a dark place,
When you betrayed me,
I have lost.
You have defeated me.

My love,
In my heart did I keep you,
Safe from harm.

Hypnotized,
You pierced my soul,
With nothing but a smile,

You would leave me?
For her.
I never expected.

Go then, traitor.
Go in peace.
Fear nothing.

Is there anything sweeter,
They ask,
Than being in love?

Just wait,
Friend,
Until you taste the bitterness,
Of deceit.

Very emotional piece, I love the austerity of the final stanza. Beautiful writing!

Thank you so much.
"Hypnotized,
You pierced my soul,
With nothing but a smile,"

These struck me as very powerful lines- smiles can impact nearly everyone in the world, and they can clearly set off a chain reaction of wonderful feelings...

Ah! I'm so very glad I picked this piece to read.
It's so beautiful and flows off the page with perfect rhythm.
It's also very relate-able and I love relate-able.

This is deep. Deceit is a hard thing to forgive and to forget. :(

Very well written. I adore the line that reads, "Hypnotized, You pierced my soul, With nothing but a smile." Great job!

Welcome
So true.. so sad...

"Is there anything sweeter, they ask, than being in love?
Just wait, friend, until you taste the bitterness of deceit." - Wonderful two stanzas, love the sweet vs bitterness part.

Great poem =D

A poem that is emotionally pungent, the anger and distrust are plain to read here,
hatred in it's perfect black dress, excellent.
