My Worst Enemy

My Worst Enemy

A Poem by Joan*Eckhart
"

I'm not the fanciest poet around. I just like writing how I feel. This may not make sense to those who did not write it.

"

Why do you give me such a hard time?

I ask you,

You look back at me

with nothing to say,

today.

Why can't you just let me breathe?

I want to know.

But you're so quiet today.

Can't I catch a break?

If only you would let me.

No words are spoken from you.

Have you lost your voice?

Keep those thoughts,

hidden away in the darkest corner.

Where I can't find them,

Please.

You are my own worst enemy,

but also my very best friend.

Though I wish sometimes,

you'd leave me alone.

But I don't think I'd be able to go on,

without you.

I'm gonna let it all out.

With a scream, if needs be.

Let them think I'm crazy.

Maybe I am.

But at least I am not a lonely fool.

Author's Note

I don't think this is so much a poem as me rambling and being weird and emotional. If you took the time to read it, I thank you.

Sometimes in rambling we show the most vulnerable and beautiful side of ourselves. I like the "stream of conciousness" feel of this one. While it could stand a few technical changes, the overall feel and tone of the piece really strike an emotional chord. Keep writing and I, for one, will keep reading!

I could say ditto on the last review you gave to me, this seems to be the same anguish we all must go through from time to time. I hope your road leads to better things.

Thank you for the kind comments.
Greatly penned poem though, Joan. I think the words flowed out peacefully from a bubbly brook of wide knowledge (:

You're welcome
I really like this poem. I can relate to these feelings whenever I feel down.

I know that all writers need to feel at least a pang of sadness before they end up writing anything that their readers can deeply connect with. I found myself deeply connecting with this poem.

My pleasure.
A lot of emotion but shows a lot of character! Seems like a struggle between wanting to part of and wanting to be without.
