Distance

Distance

A Story by Joey Martinez

Sunset eyes dawn on you.
You’re a man of the moon with habits untrue.
Unable to adapt to her warm embrace.
A forgetful mind can’t avoid her face.
Commonly numb from head to toe.
Emotions become present when her presence is bestowed.
For once in your life... you contemplate the actions you conceive.
She’s the cure you want to believe.
Dying eyes yearning to lock with her pupils of birth.
A man of less fortune man begins to fall for a woman of worth.
You want to advance but you know you’ll bring her down.
You carry a shadow who can barely stick around.
Even though she rivals the night.
She looks pasts the habits and visualizes your light.
She offers you a guide, a ray of hope.
A chance to be pure, a chance to cope.
The sky offers you a chance to intersect at last.
Will you rise to the occasion or forfeit your light and crash?
Only time will tell.
Can’t appreciate the heavens without knowing hell.
You can’t fathom her blissful soul without having hands that hold the weight of coal.
She’s a heaven sent pearl who holds the world within a glance of her eyes.
I continue to cruise, hoping I can catch a glimpse of what lies before.
I am not a man of faith but I thank God I was born during her time of history.
I thank God I was able to witness one of his or her angels that fell from above.
It’s an honor to have her show me what it’s like to experience love.
A pearl I’ll never forget.
A pearl who’s given me multiple chances.
A pearl i mishandled with fingertip regrets.
I hope to catch her once again.
She gives my life meaning, well beyond the end.
