A Poem by John
"

22

"
In the beginning was the case,
Not yet the slot machine of face.
The profile was symmetrical,
The halves exactly parallel,
As usual, until the lever
Dislocated every feature.

Settling at a jaunty angle
Nose became expressive, mobile.

Ears flipped like coins, eyes rolled like dice,
Suggesting odds, a cool device.

The mouth made awkward, grotesque smiles,
Disclosing rattling rows of tiles,

Its babbling speech a gargoyle's gush.
The jackpot was a royal flush.
