Home of a Drifter

Home of a Drifter

A Poem by Y.F.

They say home is where the heart is

but I was never really sure

just where inside my hollow chest

could I find a thing so pure

The notion, the idea

of a place to call my own

a place where I could be myself

where I'll never be alone

Where is the home

of a drifter?

Where is the heart

of a non believer?

They told me I must find

a little peace of mind

I must admit that a long while back

I've left that all behind

I didn't feel I'm worthy

of the basic human right

to give away that gift inside

that most pure among delights

Where is the home

of a drifter?

Where is the heart

of the greatest sinner?

One day my life has changed

when I've held my new born son

there's nothing like the innocence

of a life that just begun

When I looked into his eyes

my heart had changed its pace

I knew right then I've found my home

I knew I've found my place

That is the home

of a drifter.

That is my faith

now I'm a believer.

I like the sincerity and the perfect logic in the end. This is a piece to witch many ,,drifters,, can relate to :) .

Where do we drifters call home. I asked myself that a lot when I was growing up with moving around a bit. I know my family and the mountains of chattanooga always have my heart. I really liked the flow of this piece. Thank you for sharing. Good Luck on the "Struggling with Thyself" contest.
