Preyer

Preyer

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

In religious seeming fervor
The mantis preys silently
Awaiting its time
Striking with blazing swiftness
And without mercy.
Fulfilling primal instincts
to stalk and devour.

Brilliant, very evocative, scary. "Nature red in tooth and claw."

What am I doing?--Jack The Ripper, Bundy, Dahmer, BTK.
Saying my preyers.
I like this poem--probably because I'm sick and twisted. More likely, because it's a nifty piece of business.

You were able to capture the beauty of this insect. Also, you brought meaning and importance to nature through this work. Good one. :)

Very cool. I have a poem entitled Mantis. I will repost it if you would like to read it. The Mantis is about the coolest insect in the world to me; they look like little aliens! lol Interesting trivia: the Praying Mantis is the ONLY insect in the world which can turn its head. 100% on this for a great write and some of my favorite subject matter.

I have always loved Praying Mantises. I can remember when I was a child, I think it was 5th grade, but our teacher had a black widow in a screened cage. I remember I was so scared of that spider. Well some of the kids found a Praying Mantis while out at recess, and the teacher put it into the cage. We all thought the Widow was going to kill it because of its venom. lol. Not the case at all. the Mantis looked at the spider walked right up to it, and just started pulling it apart. It ate that spider so fast. The teacher then let the Mantis go. The things we remember from school. lol. I really liked this Judy!

Great Write!

Tommy

You paint a vivid picture here Judy! These creatures are fascinating. Hideous to look at, but a marvel of design.
