The Ocean

The Ocean

A Poem by Julianna Marie

The sun outstretches his arms
and lifts herself atop the ocean
he kisses each wave
and leaves a speck of light
to each one, as a memory.
He continues to rise,
and the ocean roars with rage
with angst
with longing.
The specks of sunlight are buried beneath the waves
swallowed whole
in an attempt to forget.
I envy the ocean,
and her bi-polar ways…
She embodies strength,
something I do not.
The water trickles out to me,
but quickly retreats
and with it, a haze of secrets
are taken,
and some treasures left behind.
She swallows them whole
and spits them back out.
Oh, I have so much to learn!
The sunrays begins to beat down on her,
shouting, “Remember me! Please don’t forget…”
and she merely rolls along
constantly moving, as if not to feel.
But as the waves break,
I see your face
the ocean trickles out to me and tickles my toes.
