Autumn Beauty

the beauty of the season

A hint of cool floats on the breeze

though painted with the hue

of warmer times ruffling the trees

still the sky is blue

 

With soft highlights of lacey clouds

fluffs of marshmallow white

catching the flecks of sun and shade

shimmering with delight

 

And on the trees, leaves glow like flames

of fire way up high

and yet their warmth is somehow tame

dressing the autumn sky

 

And as leaves stir and dance and fall

a warm embrace unfolds

wrapping around winter’s cold call

in red and orange and gold

 

Sending flowers with sleepy heads

under the leaves unfurled

Falling in veils upon their beds

as autumn paints the world

 

Weaving colors, brilliant and bold

in a tapestry of fall

And me, I watch beauty unfold

captured by it all

I always come into Autumn with high hopes, and this year is no exception. I think all writers can pinpoint certain times that just inspire them more than others, and that inspiration usually wakes up around mid-Autumn and sets in during the Winter months. You've crystallized all that is beautiful and good about this time of year in this vibrant and lyrical piece. Well done Julie :)
