Jesus Fish

Jesus Fish

A Poem by JustKeith

I had a fish once
who played
until the day he

He would float
upside down
at the top
of his bowl,
fooling everyone
into believing
his breathing had

My friends would visit
and witness this spectacle.

They would inform me
of my fish’s passing
and I would fill them in
on his well rehearsed joke.

He could do this
in such a convincing manner,
that there were even times
I almost believed it

There have been instances
in my own life
where I
could have been
should have been
but I was only playing
with a fragile toughness.
An inside joke
no one was allowed
in on.

I wasn’t as clever
as my fish though.
He could die
and come back
to life
on a daily

My fish had talent
and he was sure
to be remembered
and revered
on the day
of his death.

And then one day
my fish did
indeed die
and I didn’t believe it.

I found him
floating upside down
in his bowl,
and his breathing
had stopped.

He had fooled me
one last time
and for once
the joke

A unique and arresting subject, and very well penned. I especially like the narraotr commentary in the middle- the parallel. It feels like it wants a tie-in at the end, though, too, to avoid becoming an afetrthought. But that is perhaps just me.

Thanks for sharing it.

Cool man! This is like a modern version of 'the boy who cried wolf'. I like the resurrection theme to this too, but I guess death catches up with us all in the end. Nice write, spence

Wow ... Whimsical but hit me rock bottom at the end.
Death is a fleeting thing that no one escapes even AJesus.
Made me feel like fishing for answers on how to live life to
the fullest because we all have or will come close to death.
Life life now b4 the dark reaper gets us ...
thanks for sharing Jesus Fish, JK
