The truth about Werewolves

The truth about Werewolves

A Story by K. Hicks

This is just my interpretation :D

Werewolves, are we cursed man-beast bound to earth for all eternity? Or are we really shape shifting sprite guides sent here to protect humans, as the Native American legends suggest? We are actually a little of both. No one knows when or where the first werewolf arrived, as our legends have it, it was some time in the early Mesopotamian era, in central America and in what would now be considered Greece.

When we first started to transform we had no idea what was happening, so obviously the first few generations freaked, for lack of a better word, and started attacking villagers. Killing many of them, and this we think, is where the Greek mythology comes from. Over the ages however, we've learned to control ourselves. In the beginning, when we attacked, we were only half shifted and didn't know how or even understand how to let the entire transformation take hold. Once we did figure out how we transformed completely to our wolven form, we found that our minds were much calmer and we weren't as pron to violence.

Back in the early years we used the light of the full moon to see, because we were only half shifted so our eyesight was horrible, Due to that I suppose is where the the transformation part of the legend came from. However the moon does not need to be full for us to change we can change anytime we like.

It is entirely possible to be turned, though not easy, the only way to be turned is to be bitten... By an alpha and that rarely happens, alphas are very particular about who they allow to join their pack. Those chosen by the alpha are tested without ever knowing it, and if they pass the bite comes without warning.

The only way you can become an alpha is of course to kill or defeat the alpha before you. Just to clear the record we can be killed just as easily by a regular as we can by a silver one. Silver dose not affect us as mythology states it will not burn our skin or cause us to roll over in pain.

While in our wolven forms and running with our pack we communicate like regular wolves, with the added benefit of being able to send our thoughts as pictures into each others minds, it's not like telepathy, we can't read each others thoughts we can only send pictures.

As for our life span, we live much longer than humans though not as long as vampires, and speaking of vampires all those legends that say we're in some sort of epic war and always fighting, not true we actually co-exist rather peacefully, unless someone on the opposing side picks a fight and kills some one on the other side, that will start (another), epic battle...

I'll be honest... I love wolves... Yet, the idea of the traditional werewolf is something I've never seen anyone writer about well. It's hard to get over the hurdle of cliche when it comes to them. But, you've created a solid historical idea with this piece. So, i'm willing to give it a chance and see where it goes. The one thing I might suggest in this piece is actuall having a reason why they began shifting.

In my own writen universe, werewolves is a misnomer. The reality was they simply were sorcerers that had the ability to take on a different shape. The reason for them shiftin in the first place was do to persecution by non magic users.

Take this someplace! I'll be interested in how it evolves.
