China Doll

China Doll

A Poem by Kelsey

I am still your china doll,
Sitting on the shelf.
Brush away the cobwebs --
Blow away the dust.

I am still your little china doll
Did you really hate me that much?
Broken smile with little porcelain teeth.
Paint a cheery look on my face --
See only what you want to see.

Your little china doll
Wearing her old tattered dress.
I lay there and take the abuse
Just because you think it's best.

Drop me on the floor,
Stomp on me,
Kick me...
I still come back for more.

Your little china doll:
Her smile is fading
Her little porcelain heart --
It's breaking.

I am still your china doll,
Sitting on the shelf.
Collecting dust -- gathering memories -- new home for spider webs --
Leave me here to soon fall.

Breaking china...
The tinkling sound of silver bells.
Sweep the pieces under the carpet,
Pretty girl,
Sweep them under the carpet.
And forget she was ever here to start with.

Author's Note

Kelsey
I entered this poem for Young Authors' Fair last year and made it into the County competetion, but I didn't win. It's probably the only poem I've ever written that I've ever really liked.

I can certainly see why you'd be proud of it - it really brings to mind some rather desolate imagery, but that just means it was that well put together. Beautifully written.
