Summer in February

an ode to a beautiful day

Summer in February

The sun did shine that bonny day

It wasn't April, it wasn't May

Christmas had only just been done

Memories fresh of all the fun

Winter boots still line the hall

Sizes ranging from large to small

It feels like a treat this warm sun

Has winter gone and summer begun?

Can we trust this early heat?

Tomorrow will snow lay at our feet?

Last year at this time a deep freeze

Snow came rising to your knees

What to wear, now it is warm

Will the bees begin to swarm?

The flowers in bloom, wondrous displays

The birds singing brightly, enjoying the rays

Dogs at the beach, running happy and wild

Everyone smiling, man, woman and child

While this unexpected summer's here

I'll enjoy each moment, will not fear

The return of winter, hopefully not

Now new summer clothes have bought

Live is better in the sunshine

Working up this tan of mine

i spent all of my adult life in South Dakota and know so very well the tease of a February "summer" ... reading your poem makes me more thankful than ever i have retired and gone south .. just the other day we marveled once again at our daffodils in full blooming mode ... our two flowering pear trees will be next along with the rest of the Ozark leafy forest trees .. nice flow and rhyme .. a fine ode says i ... did you sing it as you wrote? ;)

Wow sounds heavenly - do you have year long sunshine? it has been a bit grey and rainy this year ..we get one or two snows that are dustings ..but ..lots of sunshine ..i hear you about how lack of it has an affect on ones mood ...

not too shabby!! - lucky you - yes indeed that's why feeling so blessed to get this unexpected nice weather so early in the year. Even if the cold snap returns at least we've had a wee bit bliss :)
