Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders

A Poem by KT-B

"Peaky Blinders"
War does things to a man
He does the best he can
Echoes of that hideous time
Can lead to a life of crime
Money on his mind, he plots
To his family, reveals his thoughts
Arthur, Polly, Ada and John
Loyal as the day is long
Enemy's lie in their midst
Knives, guns and bloody fist
No peace, not for him
Moments of joy are slim
Sleep does not come easy
Violent dreams - sick, queasy
Nevers shattered he strong
Battles are still raging on
In his mind he sees her face
His one true love, his lady Grace
She is gone his soul is black
Fear of death he does lack
Got to feel for this man
He does the best he can
Thomas Shelby needs no minders
Do not f**k with the Peaky Blinders
****************

After every war there seem to be those who need to keep on fighting. They may end up as outlaws or mercenaries, and this poem captures the spirit of one of these. The presence of PTSD is inferred, which is a major contributor to the tragedy of the man.
