The Architect lives among us

The Architect lives among us

A Story by Kaede16

If this is the matrix, I don’t wanna know. I’ll take the blue pill.

What difference does it make if The Architect runs the world? Some believe it’s God, others than it’s us, or fate, or whatever they wanna think, but everyone has a theory. A “someone in charge,” not too different from Him. The Architect lives among us, and nothing changes. Everyone laughs and eats, and drives and hurts and f**k.

So what if this is the Matrix? What if nothing is real? What if I'm plugged into a machine, a source of energy? I think I’d like that. I think there would be little as beautiful as being energy.  Slowly dying so someone else lives. Isn’t that what we do anyway? Lose ourselves as we give and give and give? We give our time, our love, our flesh and bone, our lives… to our bosses, and our families, and our kids, and our strangers.

If this is the matrix don’t wake me up. Let me live in my made-up fantasy world, as I live in this one. Because this could be the matrix, and no one would know. Nothing would change.

This brings to mind some of the drug-induced thoughts that were reported so often in the late sixties and seventies. Deep wondering about who we are and our place in the universe. Please don't think I'm making fun--I'm not, but merely making an observation. Some of the answers we desire may never be acquired, I'm afraid.

This is a interesting take on escapist stories in general. You reject the yearning for a better reality. I'd be interested in your thoughts about the fact that the creators of the matrix purposefully add bad elements to the matrix. This is explained as a necessity to keep humans from knowing they are trapped in a matrix. I enjoyed the story, my only question is could you make it stronger with a stronger ending? The last lines reiterate the entire purpose of the matrix movie, but don't as much build upon your rejection of escapism.

Minor grammatical critiques:

"others than it's us" should be "that"
f**k should be f***s
