Bitter Bird in a Broken Nest

Bitter Bird in a Broken Nest

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Like a damaged nest; I am empty.
The last straw has fallen.
Though no one may see.

I am a bird, though without it's wings.
I may not ever know the joy
That so many others take for granted.

And so I sit, a damaged bird in a damaged nest.
No one will ever know
Just how much it hurts deep in my chest.

A part of me is missing-
A bird who may only fall or crawl.
Looking up to the sky...
I am bitter.

Watching those soar above-
Some dastardly, some innocent...
My hatred does not discriminate.
I watch them all through squinted eyes.

I watch them all through muffled cries.

Reading this I feel a hush of silence passing in my mind. I can relate to the sadness and pain of the bird, my invisible wings of life has somehow missed from me and like the bird I'm broken in pain and hurt. The most elegant part of this poem is it's ability connect the reader... Great work...
