I don't Matter

I don't Matter

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

I am useless like a shallow bowl-
I can hold so little before toppling over.
He is like the garden hose-
Spouting more than I could ever handle.

There is no end to his words.
They fly so quickly, and so loudly.
I can't help thinking it doesn't matter.
I don't matter.

I don't matter.

My words are soft, mumbled, and muttered.
Even if they weren't, it wouldn't matter.
It would never reach him, his ears so high.
His words matter so much more than mine.

If I stay silent, well then it hurts.
But if I speak up, he'll speak first.
I should just accept it, the way I feel.

I am the equivalent of a potato's peel.

I don't matter.

it's when one feels so pointless and alone, like you say, you don't matter, but one can only hope that someday that will change, someday, those of us who feel this way, will realize they do matter.
