Did Somebody Tell You?

Did Somebody Tell You?

A Poem by Gaurangi
"

it is basically the sum of few things that people have generally forgotten amidst running in this competitive world.

"

Did somebody tell you

that beauty also withers?

The cologne of the rosy petals

with the rotting time as well slithers.

But this decay symbolizes:

the picture was beguiling in the moment, we idolized.

Did somebody tell you

Blossom and shrivel both make the picturesque?

Did somebody tell you

the zeal a gardener carries within

is not by the money collection?

Process declares itself the king:

sprinkling with interest, sowing beneath,

garnishing coolness, heat to groom,

animating lives below the crumbling sheath;

the green eyes pop out too bright,

delicate infants find solace

in hands, which soften the brown bedside;

marl signifies protection

to other parts of the body as they leave the hide;

psychedelic blossoms and dances of motion

Steer the gardener’s life.

Did somebody tell you

Passion slays the clock, dwells concrete in its inferno blue?

Did somebody tell you

Flowers get crushed, buds too?

Stale and pale, smell and decay

sliced by the breezy sword in a blow

Or sunny days might give a miss

Water shall crawl too deep

Hence, declare the judgment late or soon

Did someone tell you

Arrival and departure,

The side of a coin, together they sculpt into?

Did somebody tell you

Happiness doesn’t meet us at the periphery?

Is a lifelong pursuit

we tacit sauntering through a forest of misery and injury.

Possession is ephemeral

Unlike sempiternal change or perennial rainforest downpour.

Did somebody tell you

Embracing emotions is a calming truth?

Did somebody tell you

To perceive through your eyes?

opine, empathize, transcend,

appreciate simplicity, complexity, concoctions of dreams,

to be curious, unsettling, spelunking logic and reasons

living through purposes (some unachieved),

growing into leaves

yet standing steady onto the roots.

Didn’t somebody tell you

to frequently step out of the ritualistic race

of monotony that has ensued?

Gaurangi you asked that I have a look at this. To be honest, it's a hard read. So well done to those who have commented below about enjoying it.

I agree with them about the repeat of 'Did someone tell you'. I think this is a useful device to engage the reader and pass on different representations of the overall theme you wish to convey. And as for your theme, I think I take away a couple of strands
- don't fall for skin deep beauty which fades with time
- real appreciation requires acceptance of both sides of something, its yin/yang if you like

But I got lost several times in your verses. I didn't follow their flow. I can't even suggest improvement in some instances because I didn't understand what you were trying to say. Here's one example:

... Is a lifelong pursuit
we tacit sauntering through a forest of misery and injury.
Possession is ephemeral
Unlike sempiternal change or perennial rainforest downpour ...

I'm sorry. When I'm faced with 'we tacit saunter' and 'sempiternal' I just glaze over. Similarly 'is not by the money collection'.

You asked, so I'm feeding back. I much preferred the other poem. As always, these things are a matter of personal taste and preferences for different poetic styles, so I'm not suggesting you should change anything.

Regards
Nigel

I enjoyed this poem. Hard and real thoughts about life and where we need to be. I liked the repetition in the poem. Life is new day and new opportunity to find something fun and worthwhile to do. I like poetry with questions. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
