Love as I see it.

Love as I see it.

A Poem by Kay Salisu Titilola
"

Don't be deceived.

"

My heart ache at the pronunciation of love,

Does that mean it’s a genuine one?

In higgledy-piggledy I try to think about this word,

And to my surprise, what I found was far beyond my thought.

Here and there I heard people saying ‘I love you.’

But who knows the kind of love they truly have.

Love for sexual pleasure or love as it should be?

Only in the heart of the speaker lies the secret answer.

Don’t be given away to the flattering lips,

And never allow sweet words to get you ensnared.

For in the name of love some people disguised.

And on its mentioning they prey on people’s heart.

The smile on a beautiful face could emerge from an ugly mind

While a kind and loving heart could be inside that ugly man.

What we see sometime can be extremely deceiving.

And what is beyond the physical could be the greatest reality.

Love is valuable than money,

Never sell it at any price.

It’s higher in rate than any gift,

Never exchange it for that Gucci bag.

Love is not all about money,

It should be sold for a faithful heart.

I mean the heart with real understanding,

Yes, the one that accepts you as you are.

Be careful when you are propose with it,

And think twice before you give it a try.

In confusion, just go to God in prayers,

And I’m certain he will surely lead you right.

I enjoyed this a lot, Kay. You are very good at questioning human nature in a way which doesn't point the finger or blame any individual.
'Love for sexual pleasure or love as it should be?

This is key, it is all subjective. Which is why, as you say, we must be careful... people have different ideas of love. I particularly loved your opening line;
My heart ache at the pronunciation of love,
Gives the impression of a real struggle, a confusion or lack of commitment... an uncertainty of its meaning as it comes from the lips. Well done!

I love your sage point of view except the ending as I have no god but faith in 'humanistic' values. You set this out well in this honest appraisal.
