Dilemma

Life is a home of dilemmas,
and here we live as victims.

It's meant for us to reach the peak,
but all these slopes are slippery steep.
We came to world to live in peace,
but here we are dying to live.

Truth is more a must to speak,
but here is lie that save a stint.
we keep planning for future things,
yet tomorrow remains a mystery.

we have to live the best we can,
but there are worse lying around.
They said that smile is good for heart.
but here are pain tormenting lives.

Poor people proudly lie to sleep,
wealthy men unrest in their riches.
Here is danger and there is risk,
like roses grown in thorn field.

Life is a home of dilemmas,
where we live only to die.

Hard and honest words shared my friend.

I love the above lines. Hard and true logic. Thank you Kay for sharing the excellent poetry.

Victims who live to die. You paint a bleak and depressing picture of this world as a dystopian place and I guess from time to time we have all felt low and depressed about life and the battles some must face. I think you convey well the feeling you wanted in your phraseology and word choice.

Thank you for you wonderful take on this, John.
I think many of us have thought these very similar thoughts - what is it all for? Why can't we appreciate what we have? Where do we find that thing called happiness? Why is it so hard? Can't tell you how many times i have contemplated all that and more.... perhaps the after life will reveal the big secret...perhaps!

Thank you for that thoughtful and powerful review, Carolynn.

This is certainly one of your finest poems to date my friend.. at least in my opinion .. and furthermore, it sits perfectly on the page with a two line stanza at the top and the bottom sandwiched between four four liners...

This work deals with the ancient question as to why there is pain in life. Indeed, if we are meant to reach the peak, why are there so many slippery slopes? It does seem we live only to die. Still, I don't find despair in the poem, only puzzlement. That is probably the case with everyone.

Poor people proudly lie to sleep,

Excellent irony here... the sound sleep of the honest person, versus the insomnia of the damned.
Funny which one we usually choose to call misery...

Blessings to you, Kay! 🙏🏽

we can plan all we want to, but life will throw disasters at us over and over...our home will often need to be remodeled but if we are strong enough and creative enough...we can reconstruct the broken parts and add additions that again make us comfortable in our own skin.
