A Dream Within a Story

A Dream Within a Story

A Poem by Kelley Quinn
"

Based off of Shakespeare's sonnet "Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?"

"

Shall I compare thee to a dream forgot?

Thou art heartier and far more thorough.

The swift awakening removes the thought;

The story of a dream begins to slow,

Yet so lovely the novel will redeem

The mind’s loss of loving and recapture

Each forgotten tale that creates the dream:

It seems our fickle ways have a master.

Now thy internal story shall remain

And gather the thoughts of the people gone.

In death, the story, the people will gain;

In time, the story becomes the dawn.

So long as men can dream, or eyes can read,

So long lives the tale, and the men, proceed.
