This One

This One

A Poem by Kenneth L. Hamilton
"

Some social commentary for the underdogs in all of us.

"

This one is for the fatties, the twigs, and the trolls.

Never satisfied and not going very far.

This one is for the shorties, the giants, and the bold

Fighting against a world that disregards who they are.

This one is for anyone and every one of us

who has ever felt inadequate in any such way.

This one is for those who put up with the fuss

of not being "perfect" like our society says.

This one is for the fighters, giving every day their best

just to fit in with the gorgeous, the handsome, and the smart.

This one is for the dreamers hoping to pass the test

And prove that true beauty is not some lost art.

This one is for the underdogs, the guys who finish last

Because no one ever believed in what they could be.

This one is for the outcasts, the hated, and those scared

To take the first steps they needed to succeed.

This one is for every lie, every name thrown at poor souls

Trying to sell them for the less than they are worth.

This one is for me, for you, for anyone playing the role

Of a citizen living on this fair green earth.

This one is for the people, for we have been trampled way to long

By the soles of those who would put us through hell.

This one is for the people, for we are sick of staying strong

in the face of adversity coming from none other than ourselves.
