No One Will Ever Be

No One Will Ever Be

A Poem by Meridian

It doesn't consume you anymore

As it no longer burns inside me.

The fire we ignited has been cooled

By the chilly winds of distance and

Disinterest...

Schedules unable to overlap or entertwine.

There always seems something better to do with the time.

But no one will ever be closer to me than you.

Even when we are not together

And both look down on the ashes

Of our once smoldering inferno,

No one will ever be closer to me than you.

I remember the first time you said to me:

"I love you"

It made me weak... I couldn't breathe...

It was like nothing I ever felt before.

No one will ever be closer to me than you.

Together, you and I were HOT.

I rest assured knowing that no one else

Could ever leave a brand on you like I did.

Marked for life, you will always be

The superstar that turned me on,

Turned me out.

What went wrong?

Why'd it go this route?

I fight tears while I wonder what this is all about

Because,

No one will ever be closer to me than you.

"Do you feel the same about me?"

That is the question I ask you mentally...

Constantly...

Because my lips are too afraid to say it.

These same lips that wove a trail

From your mouth to your neck with pleasure,

Down to your hips and your treasure,

Find it hard to form the words to question

Your true feelings, afraid to find that

Your feelings were never true.

Or maybe it's just difficult as your part-time lover

To know that our part-time love is truly over.

As a woman, I have to let go

And let you do what makes you happy.

As a woman, I have to accept this loss...

But never at a loss with memories.

And even if you don't,

At least my heart knows it's true...

No one will ever be closer to me than you.

A bit sad, Meridian, but very typical of life. Love denied is often the flame that powers the pens of poets and song-writers, and so it has you, too. Love is not water poured from a vessel that will run out. You will love again.
