He served as a glimpse of what she could be All her fears reflecting back at her Through him her weaknesses, Were revealed. He would always yell, "You'll never make it without me!" For a long time she believed him. Brainwashed and blinded. Till one day, She saw truth beneath the lies. Love shouldn't hurt. She could no longer pretend To be his prisoner. Upon this affirmation, She quickly grew a pair of wings And flew across the world Never to see him again. To this day she feels Remorse for her captor. Shameful he didn't realize, You can't keep an Eagle Locked in a cage.
I enjoyed the narrative style. There was an easy rhythm to it that made this a joy to read. The story is powerful, and the metaphor well-maintained throughout the poem. Well done, indeed. Keep writing, friend.
I know why the caged bird sings, to get away from bullies. Love the freedom and strength in this piece, you gave it metaphorical wings to fly, nicely pen'd.
