Owl by my Window

Owl by my Window

A Poem by Alex Vidmar
"

This actually happened last night. Thought it would be good to put it into words.

"
Last night as I sat strumming,
A loud cry interrupted my humming.
It was the cry of a demon,
It's sound, so inhuman.

Then came the hooting,
A recognizable call.
That "who-who-wh-whooo"
Of the Great Horned Owl.

I turned out my lights and,
Cracked open a shade.
And with it's human's eyes,
Silent contact was made.

Human and Animal,
Connection was made.
And I could tell,
It would never fade.

I watched as it left
It's perch by my window.
And a nearby tree,
Was where it flew off to.

It stayed in that tree,
All night long.
A spirit of the night,
Where it belonged.

I felt like it was
Trying to tell me something.
A message, maybe?
It could be.

My silent guardian,
My mutual friend.
I have a feeling tonight,
It'll happen again.

I trust that you understand.
I trust you all believe.
This story isn't a lie.
It's real, don't you see?

I have this connection,
With a demon of the night.
A demon who guards me,
With all of it's might.

OWL!!! very beautiful creatures. Sometimes, when we least expect it, something extraordinary happens and the moment takes on such profound inspiration in the soul that it seems impossible to contain. I feel like that happened with the connection you made with your guardian, very rare. Awesome write as well, the words captivate and the poem tells a beautiful story.

Native Americans associated the meaning of owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge. So to me it was a gift and honor to have an owl show up at night as the night watcher.. I would listen to the messages it may bring :) xo

A great story about a wonderful animal and a connection that you obviously made. It always makes you feel better to know that you have a guardian watching out for you, no matter who or what it is.

The scream had to have been a rabbit it killed. So, in a way, it kills the demons of the night... Just a thought.

There are a few redundancies that contradict the flow, twice you use "contact/connection was made" close together that it breaks what otherwise was so perfect. Also, the "I felt like it was trying to tell me something" stanza just doesn't fit. Say what it did say... or something. Really, just go through and work a few kinks out. Open yourself, as you did when this happened, to what the poem is trying to say, not necessarily to the event.

Moments like these are so powerful and practically life changing. You completely captured that here. Beautiful, eerie work here. Iron out the beautiful, almost chant/trance like wording you have here and this piece is unmatched.

Awesome.

A very good story. I like the description of the owl. Owls have many different meaning in other cultures.
"Human and Animal,
Connection was made."
I like the way you create a good story in the poem. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

I have the same feeling about owls, I connect with them in a very strange, magical, way. For me, the snowy owl is my guardian, but all owls are such elegant creatures with exqusite beauty, much like this poem you wrote. It did them justice, I love it.
