Inside the Box

Inside the Box

A Poem by Kira Fulks

I left you a gift

I wanted you to see it
I wanted you to drink it with your eyes.

You didn’t even look

You didn’t even reach

You didn’t even check inside the box.

Thinking outside the box is what I try to teach my students...but when it comes to love, we might want
to check what is inside...the gift of self...too often overlooked...

So true...the gift of self is most precious gift you can give a lover...:)
This short free verse poem says such a lot in few lines. The emotions portrayed range from disappointment to a forlorn sadness as it appears the protagonist offers herself and is rejected.

Yes! But then he said "I did. I love your gift." So she felt better :)
