What is "Free Expression"?

If you don't like someone's story, critique; don't criticize.

Tell me what you think.

 

What does it mean?

You can elaborate.

 

"Free expression"

"Openness"

"Looseness"

"Inventiveness"

"Nonconformity"

 

What is it called

To be free like a bird?

 

You are a literary bird

Go ahead, fly.

 

Write what you want, little bird

Let those words trickle to the page.

 

You may write about what you want

And if you want to write, then you are free to do so.

 

No one should stop you

No barriers should be in your way.

 

"You suck, never write again."

"Your story just screams self-insertion."

"You have no right to write."

"This writing is terrible."

 

Snobs

Pests

Roaches

 

They have no objectives

Except to tear you down

 

Why listen to such vermin?

You know they have no hearts...

 

"I write so I can improve."

"It's my story, I can put any character in the plot."

"I have every right to my freedom."

"That's your opinion."

 

Shake them off

Those pests....

 

Shield them off

They only want to feel better about themselves.

 

Keep on writing

Because that's what free expression is all about.

Author's Note

In some of my stories, there's a character named Diana.
She's much like me.
But what's wrong with that?
It's that feeling of being apart of the action
Than makes me want to write more.

Not all my stories have that character, though. For some reason, people hate "self-insertion" But... why?
It's not like those stories are ever gonna get published.... When you write a story, and you're thinking of names to use for the characters, is your own name off-limits? Does it have to be?
