The Haunting

The house, the path, the children, the cage…

Needless, the witch

Fearful, of a rocking chair.

Never knowing if it will haunt me again

I get this sense that it might very well be a fear of settling down. Even into an older age, when there's the expectation of conformity to a plan (build your career, buy a house, have kids, etc and onwards), one can't simply lie still while the world and the spoils within pass by their porch window. Hell, even people who have dipped their toe in the waters tend to pull it out and retrace their steps towards the feelings they held once upon a time in their prime, just to perhaps find that their body or even, perhaps, the people that surround them impede them from grasping those memories. Nice, short read.

I feel as if these things are now haunting you as you age and can reflect upon it. This must have been frightening to you as a child, and you can barley think about it now. Is the rocking chair empty because that person is now deceased? and nobody wants to sit on it because it is haunted??

Very nice use of words. A complete scary tale. Now we need a part two my friend. I liked old houses, haunted by things not gone. Thank you for sharing the entertaining poetry.

This feel like a pure single frisson of fear with so many different layers. About the past, the future and the worries all that entails. encapsulated. Gave me a shiver anyway and I like it.

thank you Ken, glad you liked it, I like to horryfy others, :D
This was interesting to start reading you. My thought is the witch is grandma resisting the march of time that has brought her to that station. Pulled to the chair by age knowing it will become a cage. At war with my brain are your words in a rage! I will read on...

Has the sound of a case of PTSD. Could be a memory of a police officer who in the course of his duties came upon a scene that imprinted itself forever upon his memory.
