Burning

Burning

A Poem by Mike Cole

His finger tips burned as they touched the hot stove
They watched as I burned myself
But they did not care

Why would they do this
I am a human being
They watch me burn
And they think it has no meaning

But is being angry justified
I am trying to see things through someone greater's eyes
And over again I fail
I am severely angered by these human limitations
Only motivated to do good on special occasions

Hell dost thou wait for me?
Or is that just a fallacy
Or am I remembering the only one who can take away this agony?

Why are you purposely burning your finger tips on a hot stove while nut cases are watching? And you are getting angry because they show no inclination to stop you? And then you think about the Lord wanting him to stop your pain?
Dud! Who wins the Mr. Stupid award this day!

Raw emotion and intense imagery always make for great poetry...I can just feel that frustration, and I particularly liked "Only motivated to do good on special occasions"...being a "good" or "nice" person in this world is not easy, and takes a lot more effort than it does to be a not-so-nice person...great piece :)

I like that you can clearly see that the speaker in the poem has an inner conflict with his human emotions as he struggles to obtain what he considers to be the right way of thinking and feeling. Very interesting. Good work.

Yes, we must trust but remember the limitations of the human body. I believe in healings, miracles, and the ability to perform acts such as walking on hot coals, but when one does such a act outside of the anointing of the Holy Spirit, they are subject to negative results. I interpret your words to mean one sometimes tries to go beyond the norm and finds the results to be less than expected.
Very insightful thoughts.
