Seasons Changed You

Seasons Changed You

A Poem by Krst Jaggar
"

Not much of a love poem, more like a poem of... longing... or even self-discovery within independence.

"

The leaves have gone away today,
Decomposed into cold, harsh earth,
Where the grass has left me too.

Snow has settled in today,
Bitterly beautiful, blanketing the world,
When cold nips at my skin,
By myself and all alone.

Wind howls, biting my ear drums,
The way you used to nibble the lobe.
Flakes settle on my nose, numbly,
The way you used to kiss my lips, unposed.

I hate it when I remember us,
But I hate it when I forget,
Lovely and passionate,
I’d do anything,
To have it back.

So the wind howls,
The snow settles,
The leaves die,
The grass fades,
And you leave,
Waiting, hoping, faking,
With only myself,
To protect me.

I love your use of metaphors and similes in this write. It's easy enough to assume the piece is speaking of the recollection of and longing for a lost love. However, the last two lines led my mind's eye in a different direction, so I read it again - and yes, I saw the journey of self-discovery within independence - and it's a scary thing.

~nicely done~

I feel the loneliness. You have done the poem well. I lost my wife last year so it relates.
