Unfortunate One

Unfortunate One

A Poem by ksscampos
"

"The only time you should look down on someone is if you're helping them up. "

"
Unfortunate One

Give or take, give and take

Such is life’s mistake

Ones fortunate, others not so

May often lead to injustices

Especially if the thought is sharing

Food, money or

a place to sleep on a cold night

Bodies forgotten by society

Tears have been dried from their eyes

Tossed to the curb

Left stranded outdoors

A cup and cardboard sign

Their only possessions

A cry for help

Most often denied

A mother, father

Or a veteran

Who lost his limbs for your freedom

Now held prisoner

No cuffs or shackles

Just prejudice from bystanders

Judgments passed from assumptions

Of what lead one to such demise

Endless nights spent on hard concrete

Many days with nothing to eat

We assume naturally

That if that man just shaved

Put on a smile

He could find a job effortlessly

No compassion for those whom

Sleep on the curbside

“If he gave up drinking, he could change his life”

Take a second to ask

Even if he did his best

With no help from a caring heart

Would he ever find success?

in this fast passed land does anybody really care ,in a land of plenty and so much greed and proud looks
so much judgemental people to deal with the people that can help wont and the people that would help can`t almost as if it we`re planned we can only put our faith in god

Great writing. There are a lot of unfortunate ones. If we would but look on the inside, to see what is causing the outside to take place, then maybe we would care more. In the society we live in, it's all about appearance and everyone is superficial. We must get past the exterior, and enter the interior to find the true treasures of the heart.

I feel better just knowing that it is always possible to have less and what makes me feel best is not overeating. I hate when I eat the wrong thing or too much of it, it makes me feel terrible about life. Oh, to give up this battle for something else. So writing, yeah...that's a good idea for me too, and on top of that writing about how people are very alone out there and they even lost parts of their bodies; it's a danger or threat for all of us. We have to be thankful, we have to...even when things are not perfect maybe that's better...I'm trying to say the significant thing but you said it "With no help from a caring heart would he ever find success?" That's real, we are dependent upon a framework of other workers in our field and others and it's all about individual work paired with teamwork and bringing that together to see what is built from that

I thought it was wonderful. The message and sentiment is so greatly appreciated. You are so correct when you refer to the prejudice that exists. Many of those people are veterans; many are mentally ill. Many will become ill from the shock of being of those situations and it CAN happen to anyone. I don't usually make suggestions; may not being anything; but when I was reading the word demise; I thought as people refer to "meter" etc - the word "survive" came to mind toward the next line. I'm new at this so it's great as it is. Anyway......
