Twin Towers

Twin Towers

A Poem by Jessica R.
"

9/11 Memoir

"
We suspected nothing,
And we received a vicious beating.
Hate for our people,
Getting stale.

A plane taken by evil men,
Nothing done comes back times ten.
Fire and brimstone burning the towers,
Chaos created by evil powers.

Heroes arose to fight the fire,
Coming just as need is dire.
Leaders arise when there were none,
Thinking then what had been done.

Searching through the smoke and flame,
One that water could not tame.
Lives lost to the rubble,
Causing many grief and trouble.

Songs and silver lost to planes,
All efforts, all in vain.
Hate and racism stand aside,
As we rise together to stand beside.

So many died that day,
But faith pulled us through and showed the way.
Now, years later, we rebuild this place,
That is now terrors face.

The war goes on and terror pays,
For what it did that fateful day.
Now more heroes need to rise,
A plan for freedom to devise.

Hate must remain down low,
Our country's unity must show.
So remember always that day,
When hope and heart showed the way.

I get the sense of a double meaning from the lines "Now, years later, we rebuild this place, That is now terrors face. " I take that as both us rebuilding the place where the World Trade Center buildings stood, as well as the presence of our military in the Middle East. That might not have been intentional, but it certainly could be interpreted several ways. 9/11 poems are always hard to read. So much pain. Yours is very simply and poignantly done.
