Slipping Under

Slipping Under

A Poem by LeDiisco

One time.

Thats all it takes.

One time that you slip,

And all of the work you have done in the past years can come crumbling down.

All the bad habits you put behind you,

You tell yourself you will never do it again….

But the temptation is always there.

You know how good it makes you feel.

It doesn't judge you.

It soothes you and lets you know you are still alive,

That you CAN still feel something.

Even years after stopping,

That one slip,

And it welcomes you back with open arms.

Almost like you never left.

The sweet stinging sensation.

Making everything else inferior.

That comfort that you were deprived somewhere else.

Its my little secret.

No one has to know but me…..

I have gone for such a long time.

But I think I am falling back under….

Slowly going back to my old ways.

I am home.

This poem is so accurate. I know lots of people who would understand and appreciate this, myself included. It's just so true to how you promise yourself you'll never do it again, but then you slip back and even though you broke a promise to yourself, you feel comfortable and safe again. It's such an awful thing...

Excellent work. It was deep and emotional, but still sadly beautiful.

It's not happy but that being said it doesn't have to be. Thought provoking, well done.

I don't think it's dark. I like it. A name pops in my skull of puzzles, and I am taken back many years. A girl I knew in my younger days, who was assaulted and filmed by her dad and her dad's friends, would draw these gorgeous charcoal drawings all over her wall, and they were quite impressive in shadow and in detail. Her house was a haunted house, and she ended up moving out. Years later she moved back home and shut down emotionally, and that was the hardest thing to ever see!! She couldn't even cut herself, burn herself or pullout all her hair like she used to do to calm herself down from all the ticks and pain she had. She is missed and this poem is great. It isn't gory with crass language or dramatic for no reason..... a perfect "mood" piece!! xoxo -Mark

Reminds me of a girl I cared a lot about. She took methadone, but said in some ways that was worse. Anyhow, I would like to say I like this piece, but it takes me back to a dark place too, so I guess I must say that this is very well expressed, and transports one, which is a good sign of literary talent.

So well done! I love how mesmerizing this one is...and so appropriate too to all of us who have addictions.
