Broken Heart Boulder

Broken Heart Boulder

A Poem by LKBillips
"

Just letting those words flow and this is what formed.

"
Broken Heart Boulder

Stretching towards the sky

I feel my fingers heat

The sun it burns my eyes

My heart is slow to beat

I’ve been amongst the cacti

The venomous bugs do swarm

On top the blistered sand I

Wage the passing storm

The grains tear at my skin

No tears can quench my face

My hope is growing thin

In this God forsaken place

The trials that I confront

Have all come down to this

Will I say I won,

Or face my own abyss?

The oasis of your love

Seems but a memory

Alone I push and shove

Towards the smell of open sea

Sisyphus I’m not

But I push this boulder still

Through the desert hot

And up the mounting hill

I dare not look ahead

I need to be present here

The future is not  said

I don't want to face that fear

At the apex of the mount

The boulder hits the very top

I close my eyes and count

Willing my doubt to stop

The taste of salt it lingers

As I move around the sphere

The wind flows through my fingers

The water looks so clear

I leave that rock behind

And dash forward down this mound

The past was so unkind

But no longer am I bound

I’ve taken the task before me

And here my heaven lies

The anguish was all I could see

Until I broke through this disguise

As I dip my toes in water

I know I may face this pain again

But love is sometimes worth it

No matter how it ends

Well done. I know when we are going through heartbreak we can’t see anything but the boulder and yet when we finally watch it roll down the other side we realize life goes on. You did a great job expressing how hard it is to get to that point :)

This is an epic story in a poem with strong rhyme & rhythm so consistent thru-out! I have to bow down to the word crafter that threw down this long mesmerizing storyline. I love the way your descriptions of fighting thru various boulder-pushing & mountain-climbing challenges resembles life and then your ending is so perfect, with ambivalence & acceptance conveyed warmly (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Love the title and the strong message your lines convey. Love is always worth seeking out regardless of what has gone before. Great flow, nice and smooth. Super poem.
