Dust Devils

Dust Devils

references to greek mythology and wind storms. A dedication to wind bags.

Dust Devils

The crew stole Aeolus’ purse,

when it opened the winds took on terrestrial forms,

a paroxysm of storms called poets and writers -

squalling self importance,

filled with idle words propagating doubt

from spectators and admires alike

it was followed by gales of resentment,

superiority to the land and sea

made them free to wander aimlessly

and who dare question the way the wind blows?

A precipitation of pretentious entitlements,

questioning the echo of the bow

Sulking in seething silence,

Vociferous Derechos they were,

clamoring importance,

making the journey become prosaic,

storm after storm,

short days followed by long nights,

sunburns, chapped lips and blisters

then more,

more

on a scale that not even Beaufort

could calculate

Their abrasive and self-serving  manners

eroding the delicate and beautiful nature

of what lays before them,

suspending everything worthwhile

in tumultuous chaos,

leaving nothing but debris.

"squalling self importance"? Why, a poem about me!

All kidding aside, you have some slippery thoughtful turns of phrases here that I enjoyed speaking out loud. And the disgusted tone kept me reading too, till the end, when I stood in the rubble with the rest.

Excellent.

So good to see ,and read you, again. Your work is on another shelf. It blends realism, and abstract references, much in the Bohemian style. You let the reader take what they will. I loved this, but confess I perhaps stoled from it your true intent. It doesn't matter. It made me "feel." Rain..
