The Phoenix (working title)

The Phoenix (working title)

A Poem by JessicaRose

I set a fire in my belly,
where all my expectations have come to rest.
Swallowed like stones,
too large or too heavy to drag from the depths of me.
I needed to know if the flame would
burn my soul down around me,
shatter my matchstick bones,
climb the ladder of my spine and engulf
me whole.

The biggest expectation of all
was to become
the Phoenix.
