Trek

Trek

A Poem by Jamila
"

Courage lies within.

"
I would
trek
a million miles
over mountains
high
and deserts
wide
though uncertainty
lurks
in every shadow
taunting
quietly
by my
side
Footsteps
thumping
to a heartbeat
solo
a romantic clone
of
Marco Polo
Till
at journey's end
where our twain
shall
meet
upon my
knees
abreast your
feet
and there i'll
give
of all I am
made
for just one
touch
of your precious
silk
and a
wishful
glance
in
trade.

I love your idea of a romantic clone of Marco Polo. An adventurer, an explorer much famed. A trek to find your love indeed, and your posted image of footprints in a desert along with your lines tells me just how much effort the author would be prepared to invest. Marco Polo dear to my heart. I can remember being taken out for a birthday treat by a much loved uncle when I was ten and choosing an illustrated book about his explorations. Thank you for the read and the memory.

I try to do a multi day thru hike once a year. Sometimes it's for a few days, sometimes for a few weeks. I love it. Dont know if I'm going to be able to get out this year. You know, current circumstances and all, it is what it is.

I read your poem and there is a depth to your words that i can relate to when the journey is ending. The traveling is a form of joyful work, the step by step, the culmination of perhaps months or years of dreaming, but the ending thoughts and emotions bring us back to love and warmth, the things we leave behind and now hunger for. I could literally smell a beloveds clean skin and lite perfume on the breeze in the last ten miles of your poem. Excellent work.

I highly doubt, that even in my physical prime, complete with following vanguard to attend my every need, I would actively pursue a trek across any desert.
No need to wait for Covid 19. The heat would kill me.
But I have often romanticized about doing just that
No Marco inspiration here, it was Lawrence that lit that spark but reality quickly doused it.
a nicely imaginative contribution

You are welcome! And I like your style of writing.
I suppose in a way this is the trek of life.
Never knowing what's in front but seeking out the possibilities that may lie ahead.
Who knows, Marco's clone may just be round the corner.

It takes courage to love, to make yourself vulnerable and open to another. I think it's easier to surrender yourself when you're younger. The young don't know the pains of live, including romance, at least to the extent of the older. I enjoyed this poem because it reminded me that romance still lives and beats in the hearts of many, and you've captured it exceptionally well in this poem, Jamila.

Jamila...this is a wonderful poetic journey....i felt this way once...would have traveled the globe for love...felt it was worth it...but after so many treks...and disappointment at the journey's end...
I might go as far as down the block....but being a bit jaded now...I might just look at the maps....and imagine. Some of us found out the Love world really is flat, and we fell over the edge one too many times...
really good piece, here.
