Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Jamila
"

Paris, 2020

"
Four walls
my own
Versailles
fully dressed
in my
surgical
gown
Death's mask
to hide
my features
sullen
as a
Sun King's
frown
my song
of
Boccaccio
whispers
a
Decameron
haunting
that has
cast its
pall
as
here
I sit
in
unsocial
distance
alone
in
my
masquerade
ball.

Definitely THE most imaginative way that I've seen "social distancing" portrayed! I understand many are ranting & venting their frustrations these days, but I get so tired of people having lost their creativity & their sense of humor & their sense of communication, just falling into the chorus of whining & preaching & criticizing & fomenting. THIS POEM is the poster child for turning misery into art. I love your snarky fun commentary with wicked unique details (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Jamila, the words, the flow, the form, the brevity, all cry DISCONNECTION. "Unsocial distance" is creative and accurate for these days. It's worse than our dependence on social media because that disconnection (via remote access) is voluntary. Now we know we can die if we close the distance. Exceptional poem.

You’re welcome. Prayers for you, your country and our world.
It's the most unwanted masquerade ever for me. Our situation will be the subject to analyse for our future generation. It feels like the world has been paused and no light from the earth seeps to the space. It is assured that the sun will smile again on us someday but, on our alive-selves or grave who knows. This is maybe the 100th time you're reading yet again "stay safe" and keep safe. Prayers for you and all.🌿🌿

yes, "my unsocial distance" perfect phrase to describe this.
and your last nine lines...a single word in each, enclosed in its four walls, alone.
nine lines, like nine months of pregnancy and we are pregnant with fear.
excellent write.
