![]() It's funny to recallA Poem by Lara![]() Inspired by "valentine" by carol Ann duffy![]() all the abracadabra's and witchy conjurings never did roll the stone away for me. none of the swear words nor peppery damnations quite made it budge. but once came a time when he could open a honey jar - i looked upon this miracle and marvelled... it was a primal pledge! and all for me. its funny to recall how things once were... in return I offered him onions. that's right - but they were the really good kind (I believed). carol ann's kind of onions: those moons in brown paper bags; that kissed fiercely and stayed on the lips; truthful, though wobbling... "of all the oddball s**t,.." he said "where the hell'd ya come up with that?" I guess he never noticed that I had always kept a space for them. but then again, how could he? they blend in too easily: among the tender shoots of all else that grows out back, to stock piles in the market place where, sooner or later, even apples look like oranges. "I'm not available for this discussion", is what followed through the winters. never the less, I gave them. boldly, ofcourse. and hopeful - for even onions aspire... still, it's funny to recall how things once were. I'm older now, and don't even bother with honey jars anymore. and if on any occasion my eyes should happen to water, it's not the onions, either. those moons sank long ago, with the paper bags likely blowing in a desert somewhere... © 2025 LaraReviews
