Water Grave

Water Grave

A Poem by Lastica-chan
"

So brave were the men, alas they were caught by suprise.

"

Can you still hear the screams

Deep down below?

Banging and praying

Now preserved cargo.

First unaware targets,

Then fuel for the fire.

The forsaken souls,

Knew nothing prior.

Corridors filled with oil and blood,

Escape impossible,

Too fast was the flood.

Soon the thuds softened,

Then the praying ceased.

They all were lost,

Mournful cries were released.

Even 70 years later,

Under the soft turquoise waves,

You can still hear the voices

Of those in the Water Graves.

Author's Note

Lastica-chan
This is actually my second time writing this...because I had accidentally pressed some button...long short story.
Anyway, I wrote this with the U.S.S. Oklahoma in mind, it was torpedoed a couple of times and then capsized at the attack of Pearl Harbor.

Excellent poem about the last few (whatever timetable this takes place in) about dying sailors. Although grim, one can not forget such imagery as you wrote. I'd say it's a brilliant reminder of Pearl Harbor. Peace be with those long lost, and to you too fellow writer!
