Broken Ornaments

Broken Ornaments

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

Night time was setting a fire to my thoughts for me to inhale;
they tasted of sleep and darkness,
of left over dreams,
stale from being forgotten,
like slices of bread
that have been left in the back of a cupboard
for so long, that they begin to take on a life of their own.
I sat quietly;
gathering dust like the clutter around me.
There are times in life when we feel like we are nothing more than
broken ornaments
put out on display
for all the world to see our scars.
The truth is,
this world likes breaking things
and then discarding them,
once they’re broken.

Thank you Julie
Well done Lathen for this very thoughtful poem. There is a lot of truth in there. Your metaphor of broken ornaments is very apt.
Cheers,
Alan
