Elegy

Elegy

A Poem by Laura Marie Clark
"

The last words of a man who has lost his lover.

"
We come to our last few empty nights
Without a future in our sights
Smiles, hands and hearts are cold
Remembering the days of old
When men fought monsters, proud and strong
Not fellow man, like has begun
An end, not quite as bad it seems
As what we thought within our dreams
Or nightmares torturing our minds
The truth is there for me to find

I do believe we all go on
To reach that somewhere far beyond
A man whose view is all brand new
In good or bad I shall pull through

Such a shame how much I’ve missed
Those sweet and tender rosy lips
And never did I learn of lies
Behind those pretty, shining eyes
Even my heart calls out her name
Oh sweetest lass, cries out in vain
A beauty from the heavens above
She was the one who showed me love
The time has come to end my pain
And see my darling once again

We come to our last few empty nights
Without a future in our sights
Smiles, hands and hearts are cold
Remembering the days of old
