I Don't Need Sleep, I Have Coffee

I Don't Need Sleep, I Have Coffee

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Sleep doesn’t come easy these days, ever since I stopped sleeping in your arms.

Counting sheep never works for me;

I prefer to count the amount of times you told me that you loved me

Or the amount of times I have told myself that I am over you.

I like coffee because it reminds me of you;

It makes my heart pound like a jack hammer- just like you did whenever you walked into the room

And the hot liquid makes my insides feel warm and fuzzy, exactly the same sensation I used to get when you kissed me.

But most of all, it keeps me awake all night, like that night we fought sleep just to tell each other our innermost secrets

And like all of the nights my eyes refuse to close

Just in case I miss you coming home.

Very interesting. I really liked the deep emotion portrayed along side an every day object like coffee.
