Happiness

Happiness

A Poem by Laura Harrison

If we got everything
we had always wanted in life
would we finally be happy
or is happiness
nothing more than a notion
that is meant to be felt for no longer than
the split second of a moment
because I've always known it to be so sudden
like an old friend you only see
once every so often.

Do we even know
what happiness looks like
or are we just aimlessly wandering around
hoping to stumble upon something
that makes us feel alive
and are we doing
what we truly want
or are we just forced to achieve
what everyone else has already done
but if we love the life we're living
and the memories we're creating
I want to believe that it's worth it
to feel every ounce of happiness
before it's gone
and I want to believe
that it will always be found again.

very profound questions and a wonderful writing

is it possible that happiness is not tangible...but rather it is "realized" as a result of looking inward rather than outward?

just a thought

Interesting speculations here. My belief is we'll never have happiness for long if we keep looking outside ourselves for it.
