Corn Field

Corn Field

A Poem by Leigh

I am in love with the girl with the golden hair

She runs like a child in the fields

Her hair flows so free

Like a sea of corn behind her

Once she said “Come now and chase me”

And we ran through the path she wove

And very soon I held her near

In the middle of a sudden cloudburst

She flushed deepest rose as we pressed together

Hiding from the sudden torrent

But did it rain just then? I couldn’t tell

I was blocked by the landscape of her

Part of this reminded me of a line from McKuen, "chart the hidden country of her smile". Because that is what the author desires; to find her hidden pleasures and bring them out of hiding, to pursue and enrapture her in ecstasy. There's no greater joy than love and loving; of being together with those who bring our lives meaning and purpose. I enjoyed reading this tribute to the golden haired girl who has won a heart with a race through the field of dreams. F.

You are clearly in love with this girl, for if it rains and you can not feel it, then the sun must be shining on the two of you. How lucky you are to have such love that makes unpleasand weather disappear when you are together.
