Gotcha

Gotcha

A Poem by Leonard Birch
"

Don't always trust yah mates.

"

Gotcha

Me mate, asked the publican,
if he could have beer.
He said he’d better pay this time,
or he’d clip him round the ear.

He only had a ten buck note,
which the barman took in hast.
Muzza didn’t argue,
and decided to have a taste.

He sculled the middy and asked for more,
I bought him but another.
He is a cobber and a friend,
but ‘E is an ungrateful bugger.

“Thanks buddy, pal, and champ,
you are a real good bloke”.
Then he saw this barmaid,
and suddenly appeared to choke.

“Hallo sweetheart, hallo babe”,
he began to drool and sweat.
Was she a he? I couldn’t see,
we hadn’t found out yet.

Then ‘E started singing,
and we all began to laugh.
‘E sounded like Billy Crystal,
Yodelling in the bath.

The barmaid hadn’t said a word,
‘E thought ‘E was a winner.
Then in a gravel voice she said,
“where we going for dinner”?

I’ll tell yah friends, we all did laugh,
to see his startled face.
But the barmaid was a mate of mine,
dressed up in skirt and lace.

So if you have a real good mate,
and yah want to make him pay.
Get your other friend dressed up,
it’s only for a day.

Finally, prepare to run,
as he’ll want to punch you out.
But in the end, you’ll be mates again,
I’m sure, I have no doubt.

Ha! Leonard, this had me laughing out loud. Your poor friend was in a bind, eh? I hope 'she' had let some whiskers grow in for good effect! Paybacks are hell, you know! Ha! Angi~

HAHA Leo, you're such a brilliant writer, in humor, and fun... I did liked it a lot, especially these two stanza's, (for this as you probably know happens a lot in Amsterdam :P ).

"“Thanks buddy, pal, and champ,

Then he saw this barmaid,
and suddenly appeared to choke.

“Hallo sweetheart, hallo babe”,
he began to drool and sweat.
Was she a he? I couldn’t see,

Your work always brings a smile on my face...
It's free, it's open minded, it's fun, and most of all
It has a perfect rhyme scheme. Very well done.
