Party Dresses

Party Dresses

A Poem by Lesley Irma

Party dresses hang in her closet
reminding her
of the girl she used to be

not so long ago it seems
she was the life of the party
and she beamed
a smile that made them stop in their tracks
a wink, or tilt of the head
that made them look back

and tho they still invite her to the parties
she declines, regretfully
her glory days
come and gone

but she still hears those songs
in her head
every now and again

and sometimes
she likes to play pretend
she pulls out a dress, and puts it on
she dances around to those songs
