Wolf Moon

Wolf Moon

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a wolf

"
a snapper,a black bag of lungs
low to the earth,crust of dried leaves.
Eyes full of running,a sharp head
turning to head a night full of moon,howl.
Clear cold full of tired,old stars,call
the weak to trail in the snow,fearing
the warmth at heel,the silent steps;
a ballet of the grey mother.So the night is
long,three notes constant to the dark,
the  lost to be pushed to the white ice;
the dead water,the black spruce waiting,
the carbon hearts still,the dawn lost frozen.

this reminds me of tennyson...the way he describes an Eagle...you describe a wolf...the total majesty of it...the haunting quality it has...

the essence is captured here.

I love your imagery of nature expressed in this poem.

I also enjoyed your diction as well.

That so reminds me of a movie I saw about wolves. It was eerie and terrifying just as this superb poem.

Absolutely outstanding, really impressive Leslie.

I love all your writing!

I see this on many levels. I first read it as purely a descriptive piece for the pure atmospheric beauty, but in some ways I feel it is even more effective metaphorically, both with personal and collective relevance. Superb. P.

This was dark, beautiful, and incredibly descriptive, I loved this poem! Not to mention I really liked the theme of it, as I think wolves are amazing.
